EDITORIAL

AVEALMEC President

 

 

The AVEALMEC newsletter is published quarterly and duly sent to all current AVEALMEC members. This 2nd issue is proudly giving an account of all the regional events AVEALMEC has organized during 2008. This year, these events took place in Caracas and Mérida. The Basic ICT workshops for Language Teachers was offered on April 26th at Universidad Simón Bolívar and April 17th and 24th at CINDISI – Facultad de Humanidades y Educación in Universidad de los Andes. On October 23rd, Mérida held a regional workshop for Modern Languages students. This regional event gathered 7 Modern Languages students interested in gaining expertise in the use of Web 2.0 tools such as blogs and wikis.

 

On February 22nd and 29th as well as March 3rd and 10th, AVEALMEC set up a social network for the British Council event: Workshops for Trainee EFL Teachers as part of the celebration of the UN International Language Year. This event aimed at offering innovative techniques for teaching English to university language students. One of the workshops of this event was given by Miguel Mendoza, AVEALMEC secretary, on CALL.

 

In terms of legal procedures, AVEALMEC is rapidly and efficiently moving forward, recently the Association Statutes were adopted during the General Assembly held on November, 2008. AVEALMEC statutes clearly define how the Association is structured. The statutes also delineate the nature of the Association, its goals, the general procedures for elections and membership.

 

Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that AVEALMEC has recently received a letter acknowledging AVEALMEC as one of IATEFL Associates. The Association proudly appears in the IATEFL Associate list. AVEALMEC, as all Associates, are invited to send a representative to attend the next IATEFL conference and Associates´ Day. We are also delighted to inform you that Nik Peachey, Learning Technology Consultant, Writer, Trainer, has accepted to be one of AVEALMEC Honorary Members and has honored AVEALMEC with his contributions to the group by offering his constant updated information on his Learning technology teacher development blog  and his Daily English Activities blogs.

 

This issue offers a thought-provoking review of the World CALL 2008 and Evelyn izquierdo's experience in Japan. Evelyn izquierdo, AVEALMEC's secretary acting member, was chsosen among 120 participants by an International committee. This event was held from August 5th to August 8th at the Fukuoka International Congress Center and Fukuoka University in Japan.

 

In this second issue, we continue offering the breaking news section – containing important information about regional, national and international events, including AVEALMEC members´presentations and publications related to the use of ICT in language learning. The Killer ICT tools, websites and books sectionThe ICT and ELT networks section presents an overview of a number of Online Communities of Practice in the area of Computed Mediated Language Teaching and Learning.
